The Hungary-Serbia Railway Novi Sad-Subotica Section in Serbia finally connected

At 2:30 pm Serbian local time, on April 25, 2024 (8:30 pm Beijing time), the last group of steel rails was laid at the Bačka Topola station construction site on the Hungary-Serbia Railway Novi Sad-Subotica-Hungary-Serbia border section in Serbia(hereinafter called Hungary-Serbia Railway Novi Sad-Subotica section), marking the connection of the Novi Sad-Subotica Section.

The track laying connection ceremony was held at the Bačka Topola Station on Section 2 of the Hungary-Serbia Railway Novi Sad-Subotica Section. Serbian Deputy Prime Minister Vučević, Serbian Minister of Construction, Traffic and Infrastructure Vesić, and Chinese Ambassador to Serbia Li Ming attended the ceremony. Wang Tongjun, a member of the Company party and Vice General Manager of China State Railway Group Co., Ltd., and Zhu Jian, a member of the Company Party Committee and Vice General Manager of the company, including other relevant personnel, also attended the event.

The Hungary-Serbia Railway Novi Sad-Subotica Section starts from Novi Sad Station in Serbia, passes through Vrbas Station, Bačka Topola Station and Subotica Station, and ends at the border between Serbia and Hungary. The total length of the line is 108.1 kilometers. It is being reconstructed and expanded in accordance with the passenger and freight railway standard, with a designed maximum speed of 200 kilometers per hour. Track laying on the line started on April 6, 2023.

Section 2 of the Hungary-Serbia Railway Novi Sad-Subotica Section, which is under construction by the company, is located in northern Serbia. It starts from Lovćenac and ends at the border between Serbia and Hungary. The total length of the line is 55.786 kilometers. The main construction contents include dismantling of existing tracks, dismantling of switches, subgrade works, bridge works, 3 animal overpasses, reconstruction of 4 existing line classification yards, and laying of 3 branch lines. Chinese and Serbian enterprises and builders have worked closely together to overcome the difficulties of the complex construction environment and tight construction schedule. They have optimized on-site construction organization, improved safety and quality control, and paid attention to ecological and environmental protection to ensure that the track laying is carried out in an orderly and efficient manner.

The Hungary-Serbia Railway is an important part of the Europe-China No. 10 transport corridor and the China-Europe Land-Sea Express Lane. It is a key project of the Belt and Road Initiative and one of the most important projects for the cooperation between China and Central and Eastern European Countries. It holds major significance for expanding economic cooperation between China, Hungary and Serbia, strengthening China-Europe connectivity and promoting the joint works on the Belt and Road Initiative within the development strategy of Europe.

In the next step, the Section 2 project of the Hungary-Serbia Railway Novi Sad-Subotica Section will adhere to the Party's leadership, defining the tasks and objectives for 2024, and make an effort to take the road of "refined management and quality improvement", so as to contribute to the company’s high-quality development.
